Intentional Interim Pastor – Rev. Dr. G. Bruce Queen
Bruce became the Intentional Interim Minister (IIM) at First Baptist Church Front Royal, June 15, 2016. He has served other churches as Intentional Interim: Keystone Baptist Church, Lynchburg, Virginia; First Baptist Church Ashland, Virginia; and Culpeper Baptist Church, Culpeper, Virginia. He served Walnut Hill Baptist Church, Petersburg, Virginia, as a transitional pastor. He has also served two churches as a traditional interim minister.
In 2005, after twenty-six years of pastoral ministry, Bruce began to fulfill a calling in the making for many years, by being trained as an Intentional Interim Minister by the Center for Congregational Health, Winston Salem, North Carolina. He has since become an Intentional Interim Specialist and also has a certificate of training as a Consultant for Religious Institutions from the Center for Congregational Health.
Bruce was born in Drexel, North Carolina, where he graduated from high school. He received a B.A. from Anderson University in 1977, and a Master of Ministry from Anderson University School of Theology in 1979. After ten years of ministry Bruce returned to seminary at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, where he received a Master of Divinity in Christian Education in May 1990, and a Doctor of Ministry in May 1993. Bruce’s doctoral project was in developing congregational identity. He has also completed some post graduate work toward a Doctor of Education at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Bruce met Marga Thomason at Anderson College and they were married December 16, 1978. Marga is the Administrative Director for Case Management at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center in Mechanicsville, Virginia (where they reside) and Richmond Community Hospital. They have two grown children: a daughter, Marissa and a son, Alex.
Bruce’s hobbies include sailing, golf, and building scale models of historic race cars and ships. He is also a volunteer and board member with Ministering to Ministers, a foundation that supports ministers and their spouses who have gone through forced termination.
